Orange is frequently used in infographics on extreme heat and is also associated with prison jumpsuits. This project features an orange jumpsuit screen-printed with 2.5°C—the projected rise in global temperatures this century—with Dept. of Climate Corrections emblazoned on the back. The jumpsuit is presented in a triptych photograph alongside a t-shirt headwrap hand embroidered with blue thread and beads, visualizing sweat. The photograph is paired with a heat infographic that modifies real federal messaging on extreme heat, incorporating strategies prisoners have reported using to stay cool during heat waves. The project was exhibited at the Gainesville Fine Arts Association 4th Biennial National Juried Exhibition focused on extreme heat and received an award of excellence.
